When school holidays come around, kids get more freedom. However, that freedom can sometimes come with unexpected risks. Without the daily routine of school, they’re often out and about, online or exploring on their own. That makes it even more important to help them build safety smarts they can carry into everyday life.
That’s where Constable Care Foundation comes in. Through engaging programs, we help children develop practical safety skills they can carry into every part of their lives. From road safety, critical and creative thinking, basic First Aid to digital awareness, these experiences prepare students to make safe choices during the holidays and beyond.

Safety Education All-Year-Round:
There are a number of measures that can be taken at home, as well as safety education programs offered during school term, that can equip children for the freedom and additional risks presented during the school holidays
Planning ahead gives children the tools to feel more confident and stay safe in different situations. When families talk about safety and take simple steps to prepare throughout the year, kids are better equipped to handle challenges calmly and make thoughtful choices
Equipping Children with Basic First Aid Skills
Emergencies can happen when you least expect them and knowing how to respond can make all the difference. That’s why Constable Care has partnered with St John WA to deliver a First Aid Program tailored to school-aged children.
This program introduces kids to the basics of first aid in schools, including how to manage cuts and bruises, respond to burns and perform CPR. It also covers how and when to call for help, giving children the confidence to act quickly and calmly in stressful situations.
Teaching Children Emergency Contact Procedures
In an emergency, knowing who to call and what to say can save lives and that’s exactly what Constable Care’s Emergency Numbers Program aims to teach. Designed for younger students, the program introduces children to real-life emergency situations and helps them understand when and how to seek help.
Children learn to recognise what qualifies as an emergency and how to clearly communicate the situation to emergency services. It also covers the importance of knowing key contact numbers, including their own address and phone number.
Parents can support this learning by reinforcing it at home. Create a visible emergency contact list and role-play different scenarios together so that your child knows what to do without panic. A little practice now can make a big difference later.
Promoting Cyber Safety Awareness
With more screen time during school holidays, online safety becomes even more important. Constable Care’s Cyber Safety Programs are designed to help students understand the digital world, recognise risks and use the internet responsibly.
Through age-appropriate activities and discussions, children explore topics like privacy, respectful behaviour online and recognising unsafe interactions. The programs also help students identify potential scams and understand the long-term impact of their digital footprints.
Parents can help by setting clear boundaries for device use, using parental controls and regularly checking in about their child’s online experiences. Ask open-ended questions about what they’re watching or who they’re chatting with. Keeping the conversation going is key to building trust and safety awareness.
Addressing Cyberbullying Prevention
The online world can be a great place to learn and connect, but it also comes with risks, especially when it comes to bullying.
Constable Care’s Anti Cyberbullying Program helps children recognise, prevent and respond to cyberbullying. The session encourages safe online behaviour, empathy and speaking up when something feels wrong.
At home, parents can help by creating a judgement-free space to talk about what’s happening online. Make it a habit to check in, listen closely and reassure your child that they can always come to you, no matter what they’re facing.
Establishing A Family Safety Plan
A clear and simple family safety plan gives children the confidence to act quickly and calmly when something unexpected happens. Write down emergency contacts, safe meeting places and ways to stay in touch.
Practice the plan together and keep it visible at home. Talking through different scenarios can help children feel confident, calm and ready to act if needed. It’s a small step that can make a big difference in an emergency.
Encouraging Safe Outdoor Activities
School holidays activities are a great time to get outside, but it’s essential to stay safe. Whether kids are swimming, biking or exploring nature, supervision is key.
Make sure they wear appropriate gear like helmets or life vests and understand basic safety rules. Talk through the activity’s risks ahead of time so they know what to expect. With a little planning, outdoor fun can stay active, healthy and safe for everyone.
Monitoring And Managing Screen Time
A balanced holiday includes both digital and real-world activities. Too much screen time can affect sleep, mood and physical health, especially during long breaks.
Set clear limits around devices, encourage outdoor play or creative activities and stick to a daily routine. Keep screens out of bedrooms when possible and check in often to see how your child is feeling. Healthy habits now lead to better focus and wellbeing later.
Preparing For Unexpected Situations
Emergencies aren’t always predictable, but having a clear plan can make all the difference. Talk with your children about what to do in different scenarios, including how to find safe places and who to call for help.
Write down key contacts, walk through your plan together and practice it regularly. Remember, the goal isn’t to worry them, but to give them the confidence to respond safely when something unexpected happens.
Constable Care Safety School Excursions
Understanding how to stay safe around traffic is a skill children need early. That’s why Constable Care’s Road Safety education program is such a valuable part of the Safety Schools experience. Set in a realistic environment complete with working traffic lights, crossings and footpaths, the program helps young people build practical knowledge through interactive learning.
Students are guided through everyday scenarios they might face as pedestrians, cyclists or passengers. They learn how to spot hazards, follow road rules and make smart choices in real time. These lessons are designed to build confidence and encourage independent, safety-first thinking.
