Our Youth Programs in Perth
Today’s youth face many challenges and pressures. Our engaging and interactive multimedia programs empower high school students to safely navigate and deal with social and mental health issues
Our youth choice programs in Perth are designed to empower young people and address critical issues they face. Our programs tackle topics like mental health, substance abuse, bullying and cultural diversity. We use forum theatre to explore these topics, students become part of the performance and act out scenarios to develop solutions in a safe environment.
Our incursion Programs offer interactive sessions such as Broken, focusing on mental illness awareness and Control Freak, which explores unhealthy relationships. Programs like Standing Out support LGBTQI+ students facing bullying, while Overshare VR uses virtual reality to navigate online challenges.
For deeper engagement, our Intensive Programs provide tailored solutions like Secondary School Intensives for focused interventions or Remote Schools Media Programs, where students creatively address youth issues through film-making.
This creative way of exploring youth challenges in our programs is recognised internationally as effective in positively changing young people’s behaviours and is FREE for WA metropolitan and regional schools. Through these programs, young people in Perth gain essential life skills, fostering resilience and positive social change.
Youth Choices forum theatre transforms passive spectators into active participants
Through our powerful forum theatre, interactive approach and intensive programs, young people are empowered to work together, support each other and practice responses to current, everyday issues such as peer pressure, social isolation, bullying, relationship violence, alcohol and substance abuse. The program is devised and evaluated with experts in education, safety and harm prevention and more recently, has been extended to incorporate interactive online crime prevention content for teenagers and at-risk youth.
Youth Choices uses a best practice approach with lessons supported with a complimentary teacher resource kit and curriculum links to reinforce the students’ learning and understanding of the issues and focus topic.
Youth Choices performances directly link to Health and Physical Education Curriculum for personal, social and community health. Curriculum links include, but are not limited to:
- Skills to deal with challenging or unsafe situations, where risk is encouraged by others.
- Strategies to make informed choices to promote health, safety and wellbeing.
- Investigating reasons why young people choose to use or not use drugs.
- Skills and strategies to promote respectful relationships.
